Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in 2026: the PC player’s actual value test

Ultimate costs less in Xbox’s US announcement, but PC players should weigh the library, delayed Call of Duty releases and November cloud limits against PC Game Pass.

Updated 14 October 2026. If you mainly play on PC, the smartest Xbox Game Pass question is no longer “Is Ultimate good?” It is “Which part of Ultimate will I actually use?” Xbox has cut its announced US prices, changed the day-one Call of Duty promise, and announced monthly cloud playtime limits from November. The PC library is still busy. Your subscription strategy should be just as busy doing the maths.

What changed, and what did not

In April, Xbox announced that Ultimate dropped from US$29.99 to US$22.99 per month and PC Game Pass from US$16.49 to US$13.99. Those are Xbox’s US figures; South African pricing may differ, so check the local checkout before subscribing. The bigger strategic change is that future Call of Duty games will no longer land in Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch. Xbox says they will arrive the following holiday season, roughly a year later. Existing Call of Duty titles in the catalogue remain available.

Then came the September cloud announcement. From November, Ultimate will include 15 hours of cloud gaming each month; Premium will include 10 and Essential 5. Xbox has not yet published all market and extra-hour details. These are cloud-streaming allowances. If you download an included game to your PC and run it locally, that is a different way of playing; do not read a 15-hour cloud limit as a 15-hour limit on your installed PC games.

For PC players, the October line-up is the actual test

Xbox’s October list gives PC players a decent spread: Echo Weaver, Forever Ago, and Neon Abyss 2 arrived on 8 October; Battlefield 6, Deep Dish Dungeon, and Valor Mortis were listed for 13 October. Chained Beasts is listed for 15 October and Beyond These Stars for 16 October. Xbox labels all of these for PC Game Pass and Ultimate, though availability can vary by region and date.

My blunt take: a lower sticker price does not rescue a subscription you forget to use. If your gaming happens at a desk, start by comparing PC Game Pass against your actual two or three games for the next month. Ultimate earns its premium when you genuinely use its console access, included benefits, or cloud convenience. Paying for a theoretical future version of yourself who streams games on every screen is a lovely fantasy. So is finally clearing the backlog.

The 15 October backlog alarm

Xbox also lists Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Pacific Drive, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and several others as leaving on 15 October. If one is halfway down your “I will play it soon” list, soon has a deadline. Check the Xbox app for your region and exact availability before starting a last-minute marathon.

This is a service and release analysis based on Xbox’s announcements, not a hands-on verdict on the new games. I have not claimed to have played this October batch. If you want actual TGN gameplay on Valor Mortis, Deep Dish Dungeon, Battlefield 6, or another new arrival, tell me which one deserves the slot and I will put gameplay on the channel if there is interest. Follow and make your pick through TGN’s channel hub.
