Backlog report, updated 14 October 2026. Karmine Corp beat Team Liquid 3–1 in the EMEA Stage 2 final on 30 August. Riot’s official format brought four Challenger teams into the play-ins alongside the lower-placed league teams. The top group finishers went directly to playoffs; the rest had to earn their place. Barcelona then settled the region’s top seed for Champions Shanghai.
The TGN read
KC’s final was not just a last-day hot streak. It came at the end of a stage built to make route and seeding matter, and KC converted the final pressure better than Liquid. The open Challenger route is the part I want to keep watching: teams that survive the play-ins are forced to prove they belong before the familiar names even get their preferred matchups. EMEA can be gloriously chaotic; this format at least makes the chaos useful evidence. A team that can’t adapt to an unexpected challenger should not be protected by its brand budget.
