Backlog report, updated 14 October 2026. M80 beat Shopify Rebellion Black 3–1 on 12 July in the Challengers NA Stage 3 final. Riot’s 2026 route gave the Stage 3 winner direct access to the VCT Americas Stage 2 play-ins; the circuit-points runner-up had to try the Americas last-chance qualifier. That distinction is the whole story. One team earned its seat; the other earned one more exam.
The TGN read
The useful measure of a Challenger is how quickly it can upgrade its habits when the opponent pool changes. M80’s final score proves it could finish a domestic bracket, not that partner teams would politely hand over playoff rounds. Still, an open route with a real consequence is healthier than a glass ceiling with a fancy name. Shopify Rebellion Black’s later LCQ run made the second route matter too. I would rather watch both teams tested than hear another year of “tier two is stacked” with no stage on which to prove it.
