Chained Beasts could make co-op failure the best part of the run

Chained Beasts ties the squad together. The real test is whether co-op chaos teaches a better plan or just repeats the joke.

TGN host with a four-person linked arena team, illustrating the co-op positioning question in Chained Beasts.

PC systems worth testing, 1/7. Sourced first look; this is not a hands-on review.

Four gladiators enter an arena tied together. If one panics, everybody learns about it. That is the pitch behind Chained Beasts, which Steam lists for 15 October. The developer describes a one-to-four-player co-op roguelike where the chain, improvised weapons and arena hazards are part of the fight. Xbox says it is a day-one PC Game Pass and Ultimate addition. That makes it easy to try, but it does not automatically make it a keeper.

The interesting mechanic is the argument

Co-op games love to advertise chaos. Chaos is cheap. The long-term test is whether teammates can actually learn a plan from a bad run. A chain that forces the squad to move together could turn positioning into the main skill: who leads, who anchors, and who stops charging at a snake pit because the clip would look funny. Fine, the clip might be funny once. By attempt six, I want the team to have learned something.

The official descriptions mention physical and mental injuries, bosses and environmental combat. Those are promising ingredients, not proof that the run structure has depth. The questions for a TGN session are practical: does a stronger player carry a struggling friend, or does the chain make everyone useful? Do losses expose a fixable decision? Can a four-person group read the arena when everything goes loud?

The TGN read

This is a sourced preview, not a claim that I have played the launch build. If the chain creates decisions rather than random punishment, Chained Beasts could be the rare co-op game where the post-match argument is productive. If not, it is just four people filing a joint complaint with gravity.

Want to see the squad test it? Tell TGN on Instagram. If you want more, I will put together gameplay and show whether the teamwork survives contact with an actual arena.
